When can I register for the University of Arkansas’ Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI)?

APSI registration will become available in the preceding October.

How do I register?

You may register by accessing the online form. Applying online is the only way to register this year. If you have any problem with registration, please call Terry Garrity at 479-575-7677. She will be happy to talk you through the process, or if you prefer, register you over the phone.

Am I eligible for state funding?

The State of Arkansas agrees to pay for a limited number of registrations per year. If you register before March 1 and have never attended an institute before, you are eligible for funding, and in recent years, everyone who has registered before March 1 has received state funding. Additionally, after March 1, we release any remaining state funds to those who registered before March 1 who had previously attended an institute.

What if I have to miss part of the institute?

The APSI week is intense and the consultants cover an enormous amount of material in a very short amount of time. The Department of Higher Education wants to make sure that teachers are fully prepared to teach AP courses, and so requires that teachers attend every session (all 32 hours of instruction) in order to be certified or to receive state funding. Teachers who have state funding and have to miss part of the institute will need to make arrangements to cover the costs.

How much does the institute cost?

For those who are staying on campus, the price for 2010 is $570, and for those who choose to stay off-campus, the price is $500.

Are there any other fees?

If you are not able to attend and you let us know by Monday, July 19th, there will be no additional cost; however, if you simply choose not to show up, you will be charged a penalty fee in the amount of $150.

If I am not receiving state funding, what should I do?

If you are not receiving state funding, you will need to make arrangements to cover the costs of the institute. Your school district will need to create a purchase order and fax it to 479-575-8739. Additionally, you may mail the check to Claudia Cochrane at University of Arkansas, 205 Continuing Education, Fayetteville, AR 72701.

How will I know if I’m receiving state funding?

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation letter that indicates whether or not you will receive state funding. Additionally, the letter provides other valuable information, so please read the letter carefully.

How do I get to campus?

From the South: Take I-40 to I-540 North (exit 12). From I-540 North to Razorback Road (exit 61). Turn right on Razorback Road, heading north. The campus entrance is located at the corner of Razorback Road and Sixth Street (also known as Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Boulevard). To get to the Pit parking lot, continue on Razorback Road until you get to Donald W. Reynolds stadium; the parking lot will be on your right.

From the North: After Bella Vista, take I-540 South all the way to Fayetteville. From I-540, exit Hwy 112 (exit 66). Turn right on Hwy 112 and travel south for 2 miles until you reach the campus entrance at the corner of Garland Avenue and Cleveland Street. (After crossing the North Street/Wedington intersection, Hwy 112 becomes Garland Avenue.)

From the East: Take Hwy 412 to I-540. See directions from north.

Where will I be housed, if I choose to stay on campus?

If you stay on-campus, you will live in the Northwest Quads, our newest residential facility. The rooms are suite style, which means that you will have a private room, but will share a bathroom with another participant and a living area with three other participants. The Quads are located on the corner of Maple and Garland Streets.

Who will be teaching my course?

The APSI invites experienced, successful teachers who are certified by the College Board. A description of each of the College Board consultants teaching a session will be posted on this site shortly.
