Dear Advanced Placement Teacher:
Welcome to the University of Arkansas Advanced Placement Summer Institute
website. I invite you to read about the exciting program we have to
offer this summer during our 11th annual Advanced Placement Summer
Institute, July 27-30, 2009. Each year hundreds of dedicated teachers
from across the state and region join us to share exciting teaching
plans and strategies that help you energize young students and prepare
them for success at the college level. This year we have sessions for
new and for experienced teachers.
The Honors College has an AP team here eager to help you with registration, housing, course needs, and special concerns. Just hit the “Contact Us” button for specific contact information. We are here to serve you and want to make sure the registration process is quick and straightforward. We also want to help you with any special needs. Advanced Placement and the University of Arkansas have long been partners. Our students greatly benefit from the AP program. Each year incoming freshmen bring in more that 1000 hours of Advanced Placement credit, saving thousands of dollars in tuition and fees, and this is just the beginning of the impact AP has at the University of Arkansas.
Last year, our students received more than $1 million dollars in national support from major national scholarship programs like Barry Goldwater, National Science Foundation, NSEP, Fulbright, and more. Most of the students selected started their college career with Advanced Placement credit, allowing them to take a broad range of course work while on our campus, making them more attractive to graduate, medical, and law schools as well as national scholarship foundations. Many students had more time for study abroad than they would have without the strong base AP provides.
We are looking forward to your joining us this summer. If you have any questions or concerns you would like to have addressed before you arrive, please do not hesitate to contact us at ap@uark.edu or by calling the Honors College Office at 479.575.7678. Lance Owen, APSI Assistant Director, Terry Garrity, APSI Registration Coordinator, and I are here to help you in any way we can.
